Traditional
Dance and Music

Native American Indian dance and music were ways to help celebrate, honor, or ask the Gods for something.  Sometimes, dances were a way to tell a story or announce the presence of a leader.

Often, dances will be performed around a fire with men traditionally closet to the flames.

The most common and well-known Native American Indian dance is the Stomp Dance.  It is usually accompanied with a drum and rattles to help keep a beat.

Headdresses and outfits often symbolize a certain status or achievement

Below is an example of a traditional Stomp Dance performed by the Cherokee Nation, who is located in the area of present day Tennessee and North Carolina.
