Welcome to Hispanic Heritage Month!

What is Hispanic Heritage Month?
It is a time for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.

Why isn't Hispanic Heritage Month a full month?

September 15 is the anniversary of independence of the Hispanic countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua who all declared independence in 1821.

It was signed into law as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 and made into a month long celebration in 1988.

Which countries are Hispanic?

Hispanic usually refers to modern day Spain, but includes many of the modern Spanish speaking countries that span the globe!  Spanish speaking countries can be found on 4 continents!

Latino countries usually refer to those countries which are found in Central American and South America and are of Spanish descendants.

Though Brazil does not speak Spanish, they speak Portuguese, they are often included in this category.
